Ivel MAC has existed for some 36 years. During that time several National and International champions have passed through its books. It was founded through the efforts of a few of the still existing members and the kind assistance of Lady Astell of Everton. It was through the actions of Lady Astell that the club was encouraged to prosper and make full use of the remains wartime airfield at Tempsford. Although the Tempsford field always must always be considered our original birthplace, the club had the use, (through several of its members), many other sites in the county. Waterloo farm, Chandler’s Farm and Houton Conquest being just a few early years’ alternatives where members could fly.
As with most clubs in this country the number of active members on any occasion is often quite small and the same faces are seen. A flying field not only has to be appealing to its participants but also has to be convenient and safe. With the diverse classes of model and members the club was always on the lookout for additional sites so that there is not a clash of interests. In recent years, through the kindness of Ted Wooton of Colmworth and the Wilden Cricket Club we have had the use of the two sites along side our usage of Tempsford. This was always appealing
IC power, electric power and towline gliders are encouraged. Although the majority of members have used IC power, there is now about 50% using electric. The vastly increased efficiency of motors and batteries has allowed our club to follow the national trend in this class.
The club operates a noise level restriction and models are not permitted to fly unless they have been checked to comply with the nationally recognised levels.
